It's one thing if you have like, one or two of those to do with people who are pretty hands off. I've learned my lesson that not everyone is so 'cool', and some people are so insanely nitpicky you want to blow your head off. >_<! |

If you don't outright ban such requests, you might want to make the stipulation for long comissions: "I reserve the right to serialize this as much as I like and be free to do other things in the interim between serial installments. As a result this will take a longer then even its gratuitous length would naturally dictate, AND YOU WILL NEED TO BE PATIENT AND BEHAVE IF YOU WANT IT DONE." Yah, when I ask for anything larger then a few pages I usually try to be as hands off as possible, it is really only fair. When longer then a few pages I usually limit myself to about two "check ins" per year, just to see how things are going (and to serve as a reminder of me and my commission's existence if it has been like three years since the last installment.) It usually works pretty well, I only have one red herring to date. A commission that has been out for three years, paid 25% up front, and I have not seen picture or even sketch one. Seen about a dozen commissions taken and completed by the artist in the interim as well. I have still only sent six e-mails though, two per year. I wouldn't be so worried about it if I ever got a reply. Even a quick "not forgotten, currently busy." would assure me that everything was fine. Not really sure what to do about that one, I still don't want to pester the artist, but I am not sure things are making headway as is. . . |

Man, you're like a pro at this... maybe I should take notes.
Artists, or atleast I, haven't always known or felt it was allowed to have liberty and choices, freedom with my commissions. Like, I didn't tell people 'enough is enough'. I was a total pushover (I'm still pretty pushovery.... ^^()) I try to be a little more.... I dunno.... sane about things now. Just put forward rule one: No means no, and repeated askings will get you nowhere.
Add in this proviso: Artist reserves the right to refuse a commision. (06-26-2010 01:13 AM)MirandaLeigh Wrote: Man, you're like a pro at this... maybe I should take notes. |

Yes, but unfortunately anytime you work hard to simplify, clarify, and idiot proof something, god goes and builds a better idiot. Often that idiot is me.

RE: Current Commissioners - PLEASE CONTACT
I noticed on the new site under the "commissions" section you listed 10 pages as a new maximum. This makes a lot of sense especially given the discussion above, but it does lead to ponder a hypothetical question.
HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION: If someone had a potentially long commission, and submitted it with the understanding that you would cut out at 10 pages. Could said person then wait for the next open Commissions cycle and resubmit for more with the understanding that they have no special status over any freshly submitted commissions of others and that if said person didn't get in on the followup commission's cycle they would have to wait for the next, and so on and so forth until they got a slot (or not)? Also assumed is the stipulation that each resubmission for completion is taken as if it were a fresh commission request and is thus subject to all freshly inquired about commission rules (i.e. you "reserve the right to refuse any commissions for any reason. . ."). . . . Just you know, curious. . . |

That's much more likely than trying to bribe me for 20+ pages lol ^^() Yeah, doing something in bits and peices wouldn't be bad - as that's really how I work on extremely... large commissions. =) |

I was trying to bribe you to make animations and flash games for the store! (But yah, that does seem like something I would do, wouldn't put it beyond me.) Wunderbar, now I just need a script and some money by the time you clear out your current queue (an unlikely scenario for the closest up and coming commission cycle as you are rapidly finishing your queue while I am not being paid this month [and yes me and my coworkers were given reasons why it was to our benefit not to be paid for this month along with the announcement]). |
